Over a dozen outdoor-industry CEOs signed a pledge developed by the Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition (OIWC) to “accelerate women’s leadership in their companies.” CEOs from REI, The North Face and Patagonia are among the 13 company leaders who made the pledge.
“We’re thrilled that these companies are making this a visible priority,” OIWC executive director Deanne Buck said. “We’ll be stronger and more innovative as an industry if we build an environment where great ideas born from a diversity of experiences thrive.”
REI has given OIWC a $1.5 million grant for building new programming, offering match funding opportunities for companies that join the OIWC membership network or increase the level of membership and creating opportunities for female entrepreneurs.
The pledge comes just a couple weeks before National Women’s History Month, which starts March 1.
